Program Overview
The osteopathic approach to medicine is humanistic, integrated, and innovative. KansasCOM is here to train and support those who feel called to this path, with an osteopathic approach to medicine that takes all the individual requirements of the student and profession into consideration.
Different from most medical schools, our Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program immerses you in early clinical experiences starting in your first academic year. Through clinical practice, standardized patient encounters, and human-patient simulation, you’ll gain firsthand experience identifying and addressing patient needs. Our program provides you with opportunities to make a difference in patients’ lives far before you’re launched into clinical rotations.
Additionally, the teachings of our DO program provide students with a foundation to work within any sector of health care they desire, apart from direct patient care positions.
We’ve developed a curriculum that can empower a community of lifelong learners and problem solvers, capable of addressing challenges that the medical field has yet to encounter. One way we do this is by placing an emphasis on team-based learning. Your peers will also be your future colleagues, and by placing you in teams to work on specific cases throughout your educational experience, we’ll prepare you to use collaboration to address the future challenges of medicine.
By becoming a part of our community, you are also becoming a part of the future of health care.
Our osteopathic medicine program consists of four years of coursework and fieldwork, culminating in the acquisition of your degree. We place special emphasis on collaboration with patients to promote health and wellness, the identification and treatment of illnesses, and the treatment of each patient in the context of the wide variety of factors that influence health.
Eleven modules are also included in our curriculum to advance patient care, garner skillsets outside of direct care, and prepare you for the future of modern medicine. These courses, developed in partnership with Medical Intelligence 10 (MI10) cover topics such as precision medicine, entrepreneurship, and global health to grant a holistic perspective to the underlying forces driving health care.
Technology plays a crucial role in the medical field and will continue to do so as it adapts and advances. To prepare students for the ever-evolving landscape of medicine, our program utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to enhance clinical research and help students develop expertise using modern medical devices. Our Simulation Center and training modules designed with MI10 are key in providing the knowledge and experiences required to use emerging technologies successfully.
Our curriculum will help advance your skills with:
